Robert N. Bellah (1927-2013), American sociologist and professor of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. His major works include Tokugawa Religion: The Values of Pre-Industrial Japan (1957), Religion and Progress in Modern Asia (1965), and Beyond Belief: Essays on Religion in a Post-Traditional World (1970). His fields of specialization were sociology of religion, American civil religion, social movement, and civil society.
